Although here in U.K. we certainly don't use A sizes for photography - still use inches for that! 6x4, 12x8 etc... 10x8 for medium format

We do use A4 though for all our standard stationary. A5 is a very good letter size (although I prefer post-quarto), A3 is nice for posters, A6 for diaries etc... I think it's quite nifty as it's the only proportioned rectangle that when you combine with another of the same size along the long edge, you create a new rectangle with twice the area, and exactly the same proportions. It's like magic!

There is good printer support and lots of photographic paper in A5, A4 and A3 sizes, and the aspect ratio of 1.414 is reasonably close to the ratio of 1.5 that the camera delivers, thus requiring little cropping.

There is now a good selection of frames available in the A sizes but I don't know of anyone doing off-the-shelf A3+ (13" X 19") frames here in the UK, which is a pity.
