Specifically the Auto-Tak. No coatings at all.

Actually, a cheap good lens to do this with might be the Takumar (Bayonet) 135/f2.5: Takumar 135mm F2.5 Bayonet Reviews - Non-& Other Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Complete Lens Database

It's super cheap and takes decent pictures. I used to have one, it's not multi-coated, but only has one coating, so I imagine you can get some good flare. It's also K-mount, so no adapter would be necessary.

An endless selection of cheap flare-prone glass: ENLARGER LENSES! On extension (bellows and/or tubes), of course. EL's are designed for light to go from back to front, so most aren't coated nor have deep front insets. (A few exceptions exist.) And of course they must have edge-to-edge flatfield sharpness, so important when you want all that glare to be visible in the most minute detail, eh? You can likely find a 50mm EL and 50mm of macro tubes, plus adapters, for under US$20 total. Don't leave home without them!

It is worth noting that if you use a standard Holga lens on a Pentax DSLR, you are using a rather small centre part of a medium format lens, and won't get the same effect as the lens on one of the Holga bodies, which also often give light leaks onto the film.

I would have to agree with most posters here, get older glass, consider adding a cheap filter in front, specifically anything rebranded by a camera store seem from my experience to be the worst. Canon and nikon branded filters are also pretty bad, Hoya are pretty good, and SMC Pentax are the best (in my opinion, after doing a simple test using my Super tak 85/1.9 and filters from all these manufacturers, while shooting into a low voltage halogen track light in my kitchen)

Avoid any lens that says MC implying someone's version of multi coating, or SMC if getting pentax lenses, as they have some of the best coatings available,

Not using a hood will add flare if it is in the field of view or just at the corner, and also reduce contrast.

You can also get great faded out circles on you lens from reflections if you put shinny bits behind the lens so that you tget sensor reflection I had a lens like this once, but fixed it with some balck paint. perhaps if you want ti, I can un fix it

I've found the DA 18-55 pretty flare prone, spreading those green spots around very generously. I've been shooting into the sun ever since my grandfather told me never to when I was 10 years old. To be honest, I usually try to avoid flare and I've never spent much time trying to be creative with it. It might make a fun mini challenge.

The sun hadn't quite gone behind the rim of the gorge yet.

I love to use lens flare. I get the best from my old Sigma 28mm F2.8 used at night around lights. I shoot a lot through windows, so I get some interesting flare.

Hi guys and gals.

I really want more lens flare, i want hazy pictures with coloured spots and burned out bits!!

I have a k5 and 18-55mm kit lens, and smc-m 50mm 1.7 and smc-m 28mm 2.

What do i need? Or is it just pure technique?

You need to look at a different system.
Canon and Nikon are two systems that are excellent in this regard.

Wow, love the gorge shot. Some nice flare there. Will have to give my kit lens a go... Am currently bidding on a sigma wide II 28mm. Supposed to be brilliant, i mean, awful for lens flare! Will be throwing the hood in the bin!

Good suggestion. I had a Tak B 80-200 f4.5 zoom that was optically identical to the M 80-200 zoom EXCEPT that it was not multi-coated! I think any takumar bayonet lens would do well for this (and, by the way, they are super cheap).

I also thought my 28mm f2.8 had a nice flare to it... it looked very natural (veiling flare, but not much multicoloured flare). Perhaps your 28mm f2 (never tried it) would do the same with no hood?

Also, any 50mm f1.4 flare like crazy wide open with no hood (you can get it with the 1.7s too, with a bit more work).

Takumar Bayonet 80-200 f4.5 @ 200mm, f8.
