Dos And Don'ts Of Photography

Dos And Don'ts Of Photography | VICE

An A-to-Z compendium of bitter wisdom.

EDIT: Some take this seriously? How droll...

Some valid points, and a lot of silliness. Among the "Don'ts" are macro lenses, tripods and used equipment. Seriously now?

Looks like he ran out of things to complain about for each letter, and substituted randomly.

If I look at it, 95% of what he points out as don't is just stupid. Like you said, he ran out of things to complain about

Never really got magazines like Vice. Maybe I take life too seriously, but I find them vacuous and self-obsessed, a bit like this article...

Holy moly, that is a lot of stereotypical bull shit. And all in alphabetical order. I guess it would do well under the subheading of 'satire' - haha.

I stopped at "B".... seriously, is he doing anything other than throwing every photography-related word he knows or googled together. "Don't do band photos"... what if a band wants a photo? "Don't Ansel Adams" yeah 'cause we all know well-regarded photographers must be very bad inspiration...

Jebus. I didn't see that one. I got one of these in a job lot of filters awhile ago, and plan on giving it away to someone who will appreciate it (if I can find someone). I'm addicted to trying to coax stars out of rain/dew drops the natural way though...

Do: Shoot what you want, when you want, how you want.
Don't: Take advice from know-it-all internet blowhards.

I posted this because it struck me as sardonic humour with some nice touches of absurdity. And to provoke some rants. I see that I've succeeded with the latter. A serious guide? O I hope not...

Just more uber snobbery... Do what you want! Don't do what you don't want to do! There are NO RULES and no one can arrest you for breaking any "rules" that they happen to make up.

I almost got arrested and was hassled by the police for breaking the "rule of thirds" one time.
