Fader Filter

Hi -- I have recently purchased a Fader ND Filter for my 50 - 200 mm lens with the idea of taking moving water photos under bright light conditions. In trying it out the camera a K 20D doesn't seem to adjust for the limited light and just gives me an underexposed image. Am I missing something? If the metering is through the lens I thought it should adjust the shutterspeed if I amon Av mode. Any help?

Depending on the shooting conditions, you may be outside the camera's metering range.

What is the ND rating of this filter? If it is very strong, you may have to meter, calculate, and adjust. If it's an ND16 for example, you could meter with the filter off, then mount the filter and adjust the exposure by 4 f-stops. Thanks for the reply. The ND range is from ND2 to ND400 continous adjustment. I think it may have been out of the meteing range. I like the procedure of metering without the filter then adjusting for the f-stops.

I've just been doing it by trial and error. Meter does not seem to work well when you get to the "pitch black" settings.
