A slide show:
Induction Melting, Heating, Holding, Pouring Systems: Inductotherm Corp.

The optical pyrometers have water cooled "heads" (opto electronics) when they are close.
The thermal imaging systems these days are getting quite accurate +/- a few degrees C
It is also amazing how accurately a skilled operator can tell temperature by the color.

30 seconds, ok then preplanning and dry runs are essential. Bracketing bursts too. Sure sounds like it could be really fun!

This came up in a thread a few months back. The answer: No problem. The intensity of arc-light will not damage a digital sensor, unlike eyes. Have fun!

Hey guys managed to get a few photos of the furnace and some of welding. The welding ones turned out amazing but I couldn't get the furnace right, the hot bar was the same colour as the furnace so it just looks like an orange glow I did manage to get a few with the furnace and the bar properly but the rest of the photo was under exposed I will post photos when I get home from work any suggestions based on thus comment

Yep, post the pictures and we can provide suggestions. The k-5 has amazing shadow recovery so even if the rest of the scene is underexposed, you can bring back the details and colors in post processing.

this one turned out the best but still not quite there

on this one it is hard to see the hot metal bar in the furnace as they are pretty much the same colour (any tips)

this one is a good shot of the bar and the furnace but as you can see the rest is underexposed

this is post processed (fill light on CS5)

Can you post the raws for us to try our hands?

I guess first off, I apologize, I thought you had a k-5 not a k-r. I guess fill flash could be a pretty good answer here.

The welding and gas cutting shots look really good, in my opinion.

I do not know how you can post DNG files, maybe something like an upload service.. sorry I don't know any one to use.
