I am in a rather nostalgic mood lately, playing with old film cameras. I am looking for classic film cameras of the 60's and 70's and I bought this rather plain looking rangefinder during the Christmas holidays. It came with a decent leather case too.
It is a Konica Auto S2 and it has a great 45mm f1.8 lens. One site claimed this to be a favourite of servicemen in Vietnam in 1966. It can be used completely manually - set aperture, shutter speed and film ISO or, as the name suggests, use an 'Auto' feature. It arrived as dead as a door nail and I was a little discouraged. With help from some on-line repair instructions I managed to get the shutter freed up, the advance lever working, the auto-timer whirling away and the light meter functioning! Now all I have to do is remove the old, gummed up light seals on the rear door and replace them with nice new ones.
Not bad for $10, huh?
