As has been mentioned - Neutral Density Graduated are very useful as well as a Polarizer which is ND as well.

Try the multi-exposure feature on the K10D if you're wanting long shutter speed type images in daylight conditions - works wonders Leave EV comp checked.

Creampuff, the split NDs (sharp separation line, no soft gradation) are used most often by folks shooting water horizon lines or other sharp, linear features (architecture, for example) where you need to control the light on one side or the other.
