You can also pick up Camerabag 2 off of Steam for about $10, maybe a shade more. It offers a bunch of filters as well if you want a cheap alternative..
Snapseed by Nik, just bought by Google, is $19.99 for the desktop.

I don't use Instagram to take amazing photos. I use it for social networking and photodocumentation. I am a mother of 4 kids. I honestly don't care if all of the photos that I have of them are professional worthy. I keep my pentax locked away so that they won't break it, but my iPhone is always by my side. Thanks to my iPhone I was able to capture their impromptu picnic in the front yard yesterday and share it with their grandparents and friends. It's those small moments that I want to remember as a mother, but don't need fancy photos to keep those memories alive.

That being said, I have some friends who really do take some amazing photos using Instagram. I love looking at their photos. Instagram certainly opens me up to different perspectives.

You might just be an old soul. I'm sure if I had a bunch of 18 yr olds in my Instagram feed, I wouldn't like it very much either. Luckily, I don't.

I don't get it - or should there be a video attached to the image?

It's a Flash video. So if you don't have Flash, it won't work.

Is it? I must be missing something.

To me, it's a waste of everybody's time. Like many similar apps. Like people playing games on Facebook and not understanding that they,re giving away their privacy by doing so.

I believe it's popular because it's new, and because it's a fast way to share pictures that all look the same. If you assume that others are "good" and your pictures look just like theirs, then you must be good too...

I don't think I'm that great of a photographer, I'm still starting out. I rate my own photography (public opinion) based on other's opinions. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I love Instagram, it allows me to share photos taken with my phone with my friends and family and comment on them and vice versa. It allows you to do that quick and simple and you can access it anytime anywhere with just a click on your phone. I only do it when I have time to waste or I'm bored sitting around. I just access Instagram then and read up on my friends/familys photos and click like if they are meaningful to me.
