A wonderful panorama of Quebec city

A local photographer took an amazing panorama of my home city:

Panorama Québec

He used medium format, a motorized tripod setup and took several 4-hours sessions to achieve the result he wanted. He then used commercial software (didn't mention which) to stich the images but had to contact the company so they made a custom version of their software to allow such a large amount of data to be handled by the program.

The level of detail you can see is breathtaking. Enjoy!

What impresses me is the absence of visible stitching lines almost everywhere.

I found one (stitching line) on my first try, but it is seriously impressive.

What do you use to stitch it together. It looks great.

I did not do this, and as I wrote above, the photogrpaher didn't say, sadly.

You wont get many of these to the average SD card

What a great image, the detail is truly amazing, zoom in you'll see what I mean.

An excellent panorama, right up there with the best! I shoot panoramas too.. he may have used Gigapan (that pano appears to use the gigapan viewer) or Kolor APG to stitch, they both offer a standalone stitching service, a normal home computer would be insufficient, panos containing that many images need obscene amounts of RAM. I recently shot a 1600-image panorama ( Cusco ) shot with my Pentax K-r and gigapan Epic 100 rig, it stitched on my laptop with only 2gb RAM, but I used gigapan's Efx software, which can handle 2000-image panoramas, but lacks cropping, anti-ghosting, anti-haze and a bunch of other features. Any other Pentaxians interested in this? Maybe start a Pentaxians Panorama section. Pre-processing the K-r's bracketed shots with Photomatix before stitching gives some interesting results: Plaza de Milla, Merida
