Beautiful shots, Travis. I especially like the Black-chinned shot.

It seems I have been in a bit of a rut with wildlife lately, so I went to the inlaws today and tried a two flash set up on some Hummers.
I am going back tonight with a back drop to reduce ghosting and to have a decent background..

Nothing wrong with these Calliope shots. Even got the bronze-green reflections of the female's upperparts. Nice stuff.

So, how much is National Geographic paying you?

Those are stunning, I feel so insufficient now...

The background maybe not, but I still think that the hummingbird on the two first shots of this series looks good!

dane.dawg: I love the second one, the bird almost looks thoughtful, and the blurred tail is a nice touch. Agreed though, a bit of colour in the background would be nice.

I hadn't actually paid attention to the tail, but now that you mention it....it gives an extremely natural and "controlled action" look to it......an expert hovering bird, staying still for the photographer, except for its "control surfaces".
