WOW I stink

Such an amount of crappy pics when I go out of Binki Mode (auto).

I hope I catch on soon.

Hahaha sorry but "binki mode" absolutely cracked me up; I've never heard or read that term before.

And I'll just put in a plug for this forum's "single in..." monthly challenges: using one lens for a month and taking and posting a photo every day will definitely get you sorted.

A binky is another term for an infant's pacifier, aka sucker.

Binky (with a y) would seem, from my searching just now, to refer to a brand of infant pacifier, an infant's blanket, and suchlike.

We call the thing in her mouth a "dummy".

The same grammatical extension would give the same denotative meaning with a slightly stronger connotative impact.

Around here, it's a "soother" (which makes sense for the OP), or simply a "plug."

Getting off "binki mode" takes some getting used to deleting photos, almost immediately. C'est la vie photographique.

The next step in your education will be to learn that every mode can produce crappy images - after that you're set
I find it's a lot like golf, where the one good shot in a round will be remembered and shared.

Stick with it - regular, mindful practice really makes a difference. Be methodical. Start with aperture priority and slow down; look at your camera settings and think about them before each shot, rather than just blasting away.

Read a good book about photography.

The suggestion of sticking to one lens for a while is a good one too.

Thanks. I got that one fixed non kit lens and I intend to keep it up.
The disappointing part the Nikon point and shoot my sister gave me (she is a professional) gives better pics
than the *ist on auto.

I have a book. I have the manual. But MY GOD I shoot 1/2 a GB a day of crapola.
