You are right about the reflections as well it acts as a mirror. Shooting thru glass you can put the lens against the glass flush, works for aquariums etc, minimum loss of contrast and no reflections.

Pretty inventive trick with the rubber bands holding the filter there - however, there is a potential issues with the filter contacting the front element of some of the more bulbous lenses out there, this will cause newton rings which are best avoided*.


*they are impossible to remove.
