F25 with the help of artificial light , I can run all the way up to F32 if I wish , but F25 seems to be sharper ...

As long as there is stuff in the background ( close to subject ) you wont get that black background ..
The other trick is not to run full magnification ( 1:1 ) , much better to back off a little to 1:1.1 or 1:1.2 , to get a little further away , this helps frame the subject , helps the depth of focus , and seems to lighten things up a little .
And still gives you plenty of B to look at .

If you looked at my thread Too Close ( Fails ) , you will see that , whilst lots of magnification is good , sometimes its very bad . ( makes for a poor photo )
Im still learning , and learning about the K50 and the Tamron lens and how to use it .
So far a promising combination ... ( Even though it lightened my bank account )

Very informative, old, thanks. I have already learned that full 1:1 is not always best. I've used different ones on the Sigma. Haven't taken the Tamron out yet to try it, as I'm having too much fun with the Sigma lens.
