Sports photography - three images max

A new thread for sports images. An idea from member Dadipentak.

So sports images taken with any Pentax or Ricoh camera. Please tell something about the image. Where it is taken. What sport, if it is not so common. Gear you used.

And please maximum of three images each time.

---------- Post added 09-10-14 at 23:05 ----------

Lets start of with one image I took yesterday.

UEFA Womens Champions League, FC Twente - Paris Saint-Germain. Player from PSG and international for France Jessica Houara suffert from an astmatic attack during the game.

K-5 and DA*300mm.

300mm, f5, 1/400th, iso6400, no cropping

I'd love to play along but most major sports leagues here in the US are cracking down on fan photogs. Nearly every sport has prohibited lenses over 6" long and heaven forbid you try to bring into the stadium anything bigger than a Ziploc sandwich bag, so that makes camera bags contraband akin to a kilo of coke.

It's an asinine rule under the guise of "protecting the fan experience". Well maybe I can find a little league game to shoot, oh wait, if I don't have a kid playing, I could be arrested....

It's true that getting access, full accreditation to major sportsgames is hard to get by these days. Rules to that are even getting harder then just a few years ago. Walking around with a Pentax makes one even more rare.

I contribute one extra image. This one I made in 2010 with the K-7 and the FA*85mm. It is an international game of our volleybal ladies, I think against Turkey, but haven't got that information with me. This is Maret grothues, serving. Maybe a very simple shot, but this one does go wrong on so many times because of the timing.

K-7, FA*85mm, 1/800th, f2,2, iso1000, no cropping

Not my best sports photo, but I like to post it, as it was done in the pouring rain and nobody else other than this Pentax shooter was walking around shooting soccer with the Pentax 50-135, just needed to make sure I was pointing a little down as it was windy also...I have to find a better rain picture but in the better ones sometimes its hard to show that it was raining...

Pipeline

North Shore of Oahu, Ehukai Beach Park, across from Sunset Elementary School. The Pipeline breaks over a shallow and treacherous reef. On massive swells, the takeoff zone can move to second reef, further out. On the biggest of days, Pipe breaks out in ocean at a third reef. It is also one of the most famous waves in the world, strictly for experts only.

10 foot waves, afternoon of 21 October 2013. K5 + Kenko 1.5 TC ++ 50-135 on loose ball head. My idea of vacation. I'd like to return in winter with my Sigma 100-300/4 and 30 foot waves.

Well, there's always college, high school, youth league, sandlot and back yard. Here's my grandson--not much air but he made the shot.
When my son asked if I could take him (his son) to the game I assumed it would be soccer and brought the Sigma 100-300/4. I had to scramble when it turned out to be bball and had to make do with the Sigma 70/2.8 Macro which I happened to have in the car--it did just fine.

Is the Sigma 70/2.8 Macro's AF fast enough for sports? I would have thought a macro lens might have slow AF speed because of the fine helicoil thread to suit MF ease of use. I've been tempted to try my FA 100/F2.8 Macro for athletics but suspect that the AF speed might be too slow to keep pace with an advancing runner.

Dan.

Great stuff here! I'm excited to be seeing this image I took in August at the Pro Challenge in Mountain Flyer, a cycling magazine (mostly mountain biking) soon.
As you might imagine weather sealing came into play for this. I also had my Metz 58 AF-2 which isn't sealed but I had it all wrapped in a bag.
Others put their cameras away and the TV cameras couldn't beam up to the helicopter so the WR setup really paid off for me.

This one was made in the Verdon, in France (https://www.google.fr/maps/place/43%C2%B044'46.5%22N+6%C2%B019'24.3%22E/@43.746248,6.323415,808m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0

Just a climbing day in a summer with a bunch of friends. She was trying something quite difficult (i mean extra very fu**in* hard for the mortals), and she made it, with strenght, pain, and will

The body is a MZ-5n, with the DA*55, and loaded with some expired (from 2009) fuji superia 200 film. i made a 30x45cm print of it

How about Karting? All you need is a fuel and a Kart.

You could do without the protective gear

Oh please make it just one image in a post. Otherwise there are far to many images when everyone makes a post with 5 images or so. Nice sport carts, never been there taking images.

Edit: after some discussion max of three images preferred, so this is fine And all three are good shots.

This is awesome on so many levels. Where exactly is she trying to go when that rock further left is completely slick? How is she pressing up to that rock with her legs? What's the benefit of that security rope when it's hanging down? Is the picture upside down, no, her hair is hanging down... just wow.
