This kit is so you can work within a max. 200mm FL lens restriction imposed on spectators to keep them from intruding upon the work of professional photographers?
Something like that, but I suspect it has more to do with public safety and courtesy. There were probably 30,000 people there; if the great unwashed were all carrying around DSLR's with 600mm lenses and tripods it would be bedlam.

How much cropping of the frame is there in this shot?
Essentially none. I think I rotated it slightly.

Corner exit, K-1 and the 150-450 at 450mm.

Best viewed on Flickr for the dark matte.

nice and great detail. seems like a great camera/lens combination. i think you can see the heat distortion from the exhaust just behind the top of his boot.

thanks

I hope you get lucky and find good " experienced " lenses as I did with both the D FA * 70-200mm F2.8 [ bought from a forum member via the market place ] and the D FA 150-450mm

I saw the listing for the * 70-200mm and send a pm within minutes of the lens being posted for sale

took several days to work out the details, the seller was about 80 miles away and he let me try it out first before buying it.

Another capture at the Towoomba round of the Australian National MX Championship.

This was captured with the K-1 and the D-FA* 70-200.

Why Ricoh Pentax needs some updated long lenses

As nice as the 560/5.6 looks, I'd hope that a reboot of the 600/4 and a quality FF teleconverter is coming somewhere down the track. I'm being selfish of course, it's just that a longer lens with an f4 aperture would be great for capturing surfers. Even a good FF 1.4 TC would help add some reach to the 150-450. Ah well, maybe one day.

The surf has had a boost from Cyclone Gita, this is from a location Currumbin on the Gold Coast in Queensland. The tide was coming in at this location and it was so nice to feel the water running across my feet, then my calves then there came a point when I realised I needed to move back a bit.

Cross-posted to the 300mm plus lens club...at least I thought I did, but it's not there now so who knows.

Backcountry skiing yesterday. Not the greatest conditions but nice views and a fun day in the mountains.

I'm, liking the contrast between Matt's snowy mountain shots and surfing in the summer here. In both cases the photographer needs to wear a pair of these.

National Mx with the K-1 and HD D-FA* 70-200mm f2.8 @ 160mm & f6.3.

Apparently this composition would be a fail as the rider is not 'riding into the picture'. Can't say I care really.
