That is and awesome photograph on many levels. Great shot. It shows that tight in shots are not always the best ones. The photographer making the catch of a catch with his secondary camera. A real Henri Bresson "critical moment" shot there.

Thanks - I am very happy with that shot - those don't come together like that very often.

Kids' soccer this morning was my first opportunity to really use my new DA 55-300 PLM. I was pretty pleased with the results. It's not only dramatically faster and quieter than my old DA 55-300 ED, but quite a bit sharper especially on the long end. I think my old lens may be softer than what's typical, it was bought second hand five years ago. But the PLM is definitely a step up.

It's not a miracle worker, I still missed focus occasionally, and had a small handful of the 150-odd shots I took where it focused on the background. But definitely better.

The middle shot is at 300mm.

My wife and I went to the last home football game at Furman University this afternoon. I love afternoon games since I can use the Bigma and still get good shutter speeds. All of these were shot from the stands at the game.

Dropping back to pass.

No where to run here.

Just after an interception.

I swung around quickly to shoot this catch that led to a field goal.

Tonight was my first basketball game of the season. It was actually a preseason game.

Nice shots! What camera/lens combo are you using?

I normally use the K3ii and DA 50 1.8, but this season I have the K-1ii and gave the DFA 24-70 a try and was pleasantly surprised. I especially like I can use the shorter end of the focal length to get things like the last one. I haven't compared, but pretty sure my keeper rate has gone up considerably. Not sure if it is the K-1ii or the 24-70 or maybe both.

These were all with my K1. I also have a K3 but the K1 is much better in low light. These were all without flash. The first two were with my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and the last was with my Tamron 28-25 f/2.8. The last one was cropped some but was shot at 28mm. I do like the shots I can get at 28mm while sitting behind the basket. With my K3 I used to pull out the Sigma 10-20 on occasion to get wide angle shots.

Here are a couple shot with the Tamron at 28mm. The first is from the same game as the previous post. The second was a recent girls' game.

A Great Effort (Dec 2018)

Friends University vs Bethany College

A Bethany player jumps as high as she can at a full run to try to bring in a length-of-the-court pass from a teammate for an easy basket. Although it looks like she's got it in this photo, the long pass was a little too high and little too fast... it slipped through her hands.
