I know there are differences between the DA and DAL zoom lens series but aren't the optics the same ?

the differences are in the material of the lens and the lack of quick shift ?

am I wrong ?

" DA L lenses are a light weight edition of their DA counterparts. They have a bayonet mount made of plastic rather than stainless steel and they do not have the quick shift focusing capability.. . . "

About the SMC Pentax-DA L Lens Series

SMC Pentax-DA L zoom lenses are optimized for use with Pentax Digital SLRs. They cannot be used on film because they only cover the APS-C image circle. The DA L series is a budget series and differs from the DA series in that its lenses do not offer quick-shift focusing and have plastic rather than metal mounts. Pentax DA L lenses are only available in camera kit bundles.
Auto-focus
Auto-aperture (no aperture ring)
Digital-only

That's correct. I didn't get mine as a kit though. It was new old stock on sale. Not that it matters.

" Working Hard "

hit to left field, Schwarber threw into second to Second baseman Russell as batter tried for a double

called out, call upheld on review

we just returned late last night from a " Cubs Destination " trip to Denver [ you get tickets to 2 games, on 2nd day a private tour of the ball park, a lunch and an appearance by a member of the Cubs with ability to get one autograph and a question and answer session ]

unfortunately Monday was a good game but Cubs lost by one and Tuesday they got blown out

this is from the second game

from row 35 Section 143 Coors Field

Cool shots. Although I think you might have been better off with an ISO of 1600 or even 3200, which would have allowed a shutter speed of 1/800th and a lot less blurring. I've shot a fair amount of sports with my K-3ii and I've found that even with a a shutter speed of 1/500th you'll get significant blurring. I have a sports user preset that's TAv, f/7.1, and 1/1250th; obviously that only works well in good light. Indoors or under so-so floodlighting that'll drive ISO over 10,000. Poorly lit sports is a big challenge.

thanks for the advice.

as you will note from my efforts, my photography is a " work in progress "

my choice for sports has been the D FA 70-200mm F2.8 but the stadium rules required me to had a lens no more than 6 inches and it was the first time I had tried the DA 55-300mm

I was worried about getting that in but I locked the lens down and was not questioned about it or any other lens I took in.

other sharper photos from the two games are posted elsewhere in various threads of the forum -

I took my grandson to the Braves/Pirates game this afternoon. I decided to use the K3 and my Sigma 18-250 rather than the K1. Here are a few shots but I still ended up cropping quite a bit.

Since we are at Baseball:
Here is a shot taken 11 years ago (at the only ballgame I have ever visited)
Camera was my first DSLR, the 6MP Pentax *istDL2, the lens was an old manual fokus Tokina AT-X 2.8/80-200.

It's been quiet in this thread lately. Some shots from a windsurfing long distance race on sunday that I was organizing. Extremely low winds so we were on the limit to go thru with race, but calm weather provided some special shots you normally can't take.

K30 & M*300:

Upwind part of the race was dominated by approx. 30 old division II board. In these conditions these long gone class really shines, but downwind they are hard to ride and couple of modern boards managed to sneak past despite huge lead at turning point.

K1ii & M150:

She's good. Aleksandra Blinnikka won world raceboard championship 2019 and 2018. It was nice to see her in our small competition after a couple of years brake.

Miss focus of the day. I also had versions with the focus properly on the rider, but liked the feeling this one highlighting the water surface on the foreground.

Properly focused shot in landscape orientation.

Pose of the day B&W felt the right choise for this one.

And my favorite as last.

Cross Country

Just found this thread, not sure what took me so long. I typically shoot HS Cross Country and Track. This with my K-70 and HD PENTAX-DA 55-300mm PLM.

Comments appreciated - thanks!

Our girls' golf team had their first home match this week and I was able to get out to shoot it. My favorite series of shots was actually of one of the other team's players. Her tee shot on the par 3 was just in bounds. This is her second shot:

It landed about 2-3 feet from the pin.

She holed the putt:

I found out afterwards it was her first par ever in a competition. I caught her reaction as well:
