Contact! (Jun 2020)

All eyes are on the ball as it meets the bat in this summer high school baseball game.

The regular Spring seasons were cancelled due to the Covid-19 lockdown, so once the restrictions had eased a bit area coaches arranged a series of unofficial summer games for any players that might be interested. The games went well, with no reported infections among players or spectators.

Pentax K-3
Kalimar 500mm f/8 Pre-Set
ISO 1600 | 1/500 sec, f/16
Manual focus, single shot mode

(Note that there's an error in the EXIF data: it reports a 600mm lens because I accidentally clicked on the wrong number when I mounted the lens.)

While many sports have been cancelled for the fall season due to COVID, travel soccer in the Washington DC area is continuing on. These are a few from my sons' U13 and U14 teams in the first few weeks of their seasons. K-3ii with the 55-300PLM.

A few shots from another girls' tennis match.

Love it when I can get a shot of the ball on the strings.

From a soccer tournament last February before the lock down. Taken with my K1 with a DA 55-300 WR attached.

Interesting photo in a few respects:

- The little guy levitating in the middle is my grandson. It is normal for him to levitate as he has too much energy to alight for more a split second every once in awhile.

- If you look at the reflection of the scoreboard in the floor you can see that the score is 0-0. If you look at the scoreboard the one of the zeroes is not there, Some sort of weird quantum physics thing going on I guess.

An older shot from 2016 (and possibly x-posted).
With this jump Eicke Onnen qualified for the 2016 Olympics ...

Interception! (Oct 2020)

Avila University vs Bethany College

The Bethany quarterback (#10 in the background) looks on in dismay as his pass intended for wide receiver #11 is intercepted by an Avila defensive back.

I think that this is the first time that I've ever got a quarterback, his receiver, and a defender all together in a single shot!

After having to postpone games the past two weeks, we had another football game last night. I really missed getting to shoot games in August and early September when there was still plenty of light through the first half or so. The lights were on by kickoff so I was shooting at 3200 ISO and using a flash. All with the K1 and Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

Watching a field goal attempt. It was good.

The final score of the night was an interception at the 2 yard line that was returned 98 yards.

I'm not big on sports unless it's drag racing. This is one of those happy little mistake shots from August. I was fiddling with something and he started the burnout before I expected, so I just quickly sprayed and prayed to see if I got anything. I was hoping for a clear, crisp shot, but what I got was this. The shake reduction couldn't keep up, blurring the photo just right to effectively demonstrate the power of the engine.

Ultimate Frisbee Warrior

Took the DA*300 to Seneca Park to shoot any sport I could find and saw a couple games of Ultimate Frisbee being played. Most players of that sport are ... uh... leaner? But this guy was a warrior.

Thank you. I also got a series of shots of another nice catch later in the game. There were lots of highlights since we won 56-13.
