So I took some cues from @Sidney Porter and brought the Rokinon 8mm fisheye to the weekend's soccer tournament in Northern Virginia. This one is a three-shot HDR processed in Photomatix for Linux, shot with the K-3 Mark III.

Thanks. Was a very strange weekend for the mid-Atlantic with not only rain but also very chilly. Last week we had a day that touched 90 and humid, Saturday's games were in the 50s and one of them was my younger son's team in a 7-0 loss in a steady rain. That wasn't fun. But made for a few good pictures.

The photo was of my other son's team that got to the championship before losing to a much higher ranked team, that just happened to be the home club that has 3, 4, 5 teams in every age group. I suppose 13-14 is the age where a few kids have hit puberty and their growth spurts. My boys are under 5' and 80 pounds. The opposing goalie in the championship had to have been 5' 11, 175, essentially an adult. And when you're from Northern Virginia you have a lot of kids to cull through to find the 13-year-old adults.

I look at pictures from when my son was in 7th and 8th grade. He was one of the smallest kids on the team and got pushed around during games. He is now going into 12th grade and is 6'1" 200 lbs (he did go against the state heavy weight wrestling champion in one game that guy had a lot of size on him). My youngest is going into 5th grade and is on the smaller end. But he realizes that he will eventually grow. I think a lot of kids drop out early because of size, eventually they catch up. My nephew is also going into 12 grade. He is 6'4" but he was over 6 foot in 7th grade. He was done growing by 9th.

Here is a pic of my some going against the wrestler. My son is #10 with the ball. 6'1" 200 and he looks small. This pic might of been posted earlier

It has been awhile. I went to Mid-Ohio to watch some racing. I needed to take some ND filters it was too bright to get a slow enough shutter to really practice some panning although I finally went to f8 or f11 and shot at 1/80. I do not have much race car experience so it was fun, dealing with chainlink fences and various barriers. This was my 2nd time going ith a camera with the previous in 2019. I feel that I have improved

Fisheye

Slow shutter, I like the background car could be a little sharper

I like the tire blur, the car is sharp but could have been a little quicker with the shutter

Chainlink challenges

I think last weekend's gig was my physically hardest yet. I needed to be 5 miles up a trail 3000' feet at 6am to intercept ultra runners in a scenic zone of the San Juan Solstice 50 Mile Run. It's kind of a nutty event and I can't get my head around running 50 miles of this. I thought hiking 10 was hard at times but not so bad! I backpacked in the night before to a spot about a 20 minute hike away from the shoot and camped there. It rained and hailed a bunch overnight and it got pretty chilly. I was glad I brought my little tent!
I had to make compromises on gear compared to a shoot I can do near a vehicle to save weight.
The top three finishers of each gender will get metal prints of their photos as prizes.

Great use of FE and high POV to take it all in. This photo would be a good addition to the "Bad Weather Makes Good Pictures" thread.

On the subject of sports photography, this video offers some great examples and ideas

Had no problem brining the K 3 III and the HD Pentax-D FA* 70-200mm F2.8 ED DC AW into Chase Field last night

I did what I could with the netting

Wilson Contreras the Cubs catcher throws behind runner and I was able to quickly shift from home plate and catch Rizzo picking him off for an out

A nice story to go with a good photo. Some of us never did catch up, or grow up. That said, there are advantages to being short. I can sit in coach for long trips. If I wanted to, I could work in a mine without ducking.

using burst shutter mode M swung point of focus with play

We went to a USL League One soccer game last night and I took some shots from the stands using my K1ii and DA*300. Unfortunately the Greenville Triumph gave up three goals late in the match to lose 3-2 after having a 2-0 lead.
