Last week I got tickets to a local college football game. We had seats on the 50 yard line at the top of the stadium. Fortunately it is not a huge stadium and I was able to get some pretty good shots from our seats. These shots are a series from late in the third quarter of an interception. The first shot shows how open the receiver (in purple) was and the last two the result of underthrowing the pass. All these shots were with my K1 and DA* 300.

The home team still led until the final 9 seconds of the game and this touchdown pass.

I have been a regular at the Bathurst 12 Hours since the race went to the GT3 cars, camping in the Paddock campground. I love the race starts in the dark, with the opportunity for shots like this one. Hopefully the race can re-start post-covid, at least there is a date for next year.

Bathurst 12 Hour 2015 (K3, DA*60-250). The Clearwater Ferrari in the Chase, pre-dawn.

Here's my K-3 Mark III stress test. Saturday night game, 6:30 pm kickoff, poor lighting on the WT Woodson high school auxiliary field in Fairfax. 55-300PLM, so a max aperture of f/4.5, f/6.3 on the long end. Yes, I'd get better results with a 70-200 f/2.8. TAv, and keeping shutter at least at 1/500th to control motion blur. End result was ISOs in the 12800+ range. For those conditions I think the results are pretty good. Comparable to the K-3 II at 3200 or 6400. All processed to taste in RawTherapee on Linux.

Some of them I turned black and white, the noise looks a little more like film grain, a little less objectionable.

I rode down to a local motocross park to get some practice in with the K3-III and the D-FA* 70-200mm. Whilst there I was told about an upcoming event this weekend that I can capture some more images at but will take both this set up and the K-1 as well as the 150-450. Been out of practice for too long so want to get a couple of days of practicing tracking targets and finding the right moments / locations to capture.

Something I found with the K3-III is the change from AF-S to AF-C. I found this worked better than with the K-1, as well as dropped down the continuous high rate which is good as the new camera is noticeably faster than the K-1.

I swear that the kid on the left didn't kick the smaller boy in the butt, causing him to fly up in the air. It's just an optical illusion.

With K-3 Mark III, 55-300 PLM, in a steady, cold rain on Saturday.

K3 Mk III again, this time with the D-FA 150-450.

So far I'm finding the AF on this camera an improvement over capturing MX with the K-1. Looking to compare the two cameras back to back and get a better understanding of whether it's just I've not captured MX much in the last five years or whether it is actually an improvement.

It's been awhile.but the kids' lacrosse season will be here soon. 5th grade and 12th grade. To celebrate the oldest's last season I decided I needed a new lens. I have a fa*300 f4.5 on it's way. I will try some games with 2 camera. I am thinking the kp with the fa* and the k3 with the Tamron 70-200 f2.8.

The youngest also signed up for a mountain bike racing team. So that will be a new sport to cover

That's pretty cool. I'm kind of surprised I've never seen anyone doing that around here. Seems safer than kite surfing/skiing. I lost a friend kite surfing once - he got tangled up in the lines and drowned.

I bet you need some sharp edges for that!

Kite is the most dangerous in summer and in winter. I haven't tried wing myself, but I here it's really easy and it depowers very well and if you have a leash you can just let go. It flips around and stops there. Several friends that have tried it this winter have ended up buing one too, so I think I try to avoid trying

I bet it would be scary fast, especially if you do it on skates!

It would go really nicely on the ice in your shot. It looks so smooth.
