First scrimmage of the season. I need to get back into shooting shape. I am going with a 2 body setup this year a k3 and kp with the tamron 70-200 f2.8 and FA*300 f4.5. I ended up in the press box for part of the 2nd 1/2 and was using the 300 with a 2x teleconverter. But the teleconverter was too much at field level. We tied 8-8 with no OT in a scrimmage. My son had 1 goal. Not a bad day.

This sequence would have been from the press box. The short stick swing and a miss on the check

Alexandria Soccer Kickoff Tournament

After taking thousands of pictures and trying to get two eyes and a ball in every frame and tightly cropping to the players, doing something a little different can be rewarding. It can be a moody shot of the environment, or something funny. These are from some of my two kids' games at a season-opening tournament in Northern Virginia this weekend.

All with the K-3 Mark III and the 55-300 PLM. The one with the light standard says ISO 250, but I had it on highlight-weighted metering and I think it exposed for the field lighting so I had to push it at least three stops to get this exposure.

Last year I converted an entire game b&w prior to sharing. It went over well.

Last night's scrimmage. Going forward the games count,

This kid is really quick with the clamp. He will end up as a d1 fogo

I had switched the lens on the KP from the FA*300 to the Tamron 70-200. My aperture was at 4.5 rather than 2.8 kicked the ISO up to 20,000. It's really not too bad at that iso?

Is this the K-3 Mark III? I've found that ISO 25600 is probably better on the Mark III than 12800 or even 6400 usually is on the K-3 II. Maybe you could get similar results with something like Topaz, but it's nice to have out of the camera. Especially since Topaz won't run on Linux and I'm not getting a Windows machine.

The 20000 was on the KP. My second body is the original k3. I think I will get the k3iii the end of the year / next year.

Oh, okay, that's very good. I don't have a KP but have heard it's a stop or two better than the K-3/II, and the Mark III is maybe a stop better than that.

Thanks for your comment!

Here is another one, this time K5 and DA*4/60-250

Louis Castro is not a tall guy, at least compared to some of the other athlets. But he is extremely dynamic. That year he won crossing 2.28 m.

In "normal" years without Covid this is one of the first high-class outdoor events, typically at the 2nd weekend of May.
It great to see that some "old heroes" are sharing their knowledge as a coach now.

The guy in the centre is Charles Friedek, winner at the 1999 world championship (triple jump 17.59m)

The guy on the right is Gerd Wessig, who won the gold medal in the 1980 Olympics. High jump 2.36 m Gold Medal and world record at that time.

I have shot 5 games this season 3 of them in the rain. Normally I use a rain sleeve since my primary lenses (Tamron 70-200 f2.8 & FA*300) are not weather sealed. Yesterday I could not find the sleeve so I had to break out my only WR lens the da 50-200. All things considering it held up well. Shooting at 5.6, in the rain under high school lights is not the best scenario.
