Any comments or opinions on the SMC Pentax-M, f:4, 100mm macro lens?

Thanks,

Get one!

I have the A version and have been constantly impressed. The only drawback I can think of is that you will need ev compensation at smaller apertures.

I don't shoot that much macro, but this lens has been on my wish-list for some time...

I had the Dental Macro out this morning to reply to another thread about the AF080C ring flash, with a photo of the AF080C kit on the lens

SMC Pentax-M Dental Macro 1:4 100mm, AF080C Ring Flash, ist ds
I am no macro photograper, so what else can I do but photograph gear teeth with it?

The first photo is of the mitre gear using the magnetic close up
SMC Pentax Dental Close-Up lens DS 25

The second photo is of the little pinion with the DS 9 attached, quite a lot higher magniication.

These are at f/22 and the ist ds has to be at iso 200 to control the AF080C

Pentax-M 100mm macro

I use mine with a K-01 and focus peaking. It is about as sharp as my Tamron 90mm macro. Just wish it was f/2.8. It is worth the money and seems to be readily available on eBay.

Here's a flickr gallery I have of shots with mine. I've taken WAY more great shots with it, but don't always put them in.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/15287103@N03/sets/72157632915599317/

It's a fine lens, very well built and I've been happy with the results. I have been giving some thought to selling mine, if you're interested.

I'd like a short telephoto faster than f4 for shooting indoors in music venues and was looking at f2.8 macros for double purpose. That's the only complaint I have. The lens is great.

Excuse the lint on the sensor!

Also, if you are looking for one, drop me a line. I've got an extra!
Are you shooting your macro with the K-5 or your K-01?

Pentax M 100mm F4 Macro = Very good glass ..

There are 3 versions , K - M - A , as it progressed .. I own the M and the A versions .. Only issue , if its an issue . They go 1:2 rather than 1:1 by themselves .. I got a No1 Pentax Close focus filter to put on the end of mine to bring it closer to 1:1 .
If you find a good one for around $100 , snap it up , quick . As prices are climbing and good deals are further apart .

Definitely a lens to have in the kit bag :

I had one for some time, it opened my eyes to the world of 100mm macros. (I had a 50mm macro before that)
Sharp lens with great IQ, and nice feel of manual focusing. Highly recommend it.

I ended up upgrading to DFA100macro for AF, f/2.8 and WR. otherwise the M100macro was a great lens for me.
Here is one of my shots with it:

I've had mine for about 3 years, paid less than 100 dollars for it. Also have the 50mm. Both are excellent lenses. You can crop big time with the 100 and still have a nice sharp image.

Actually it's just a small Anole Lizard about 5-6 inches long.

Here is unexpected macro from today with M100mm f4. With K5IIs that lens makes good combo. Little crops.

An extremely sharp image! That's the kind of sharpness I'm looking for. Thanks for the post.
