Shutter Count, its under Manufacturer notes

i still wonder how expensive would shutter repair be, in case it should die? has anyone here had any experience with that?

I've hit 22,000 in 10 months, no problems. Pentax is renouned for having a particularly robust shutter mechanism. Probably why it is so loud, lol.

Shutter gets more silent when weared in. After about 250,000 actuations. Only shoot with care, and never too fast, before. From the unpublished manual.

Not sure what a Pentax camera would cost, but a fellow equine photographer has his shutter go on his D1H last year.
I believe he told me around $400 to repair it.

I know one of our members (BrendanPK) has an istD with over a million actuations. I also know he has never babied it either. That camera still works well even if he did retire it. And yes it has been in the shop a few times but never because the shutter stopped working.

Never shoot to fast before a quarter of a million actuations? Surely some kind of a joke?

you have to open RAW file, JPGs don't hold that information. And I'm not sure where exactly but it is there under: shutter actuations...
In my case, looking at the last JPG I shot with my *ist DS my shutter count was there - 15652.

Question - I've read somewhere - I think on this forum - that looking at a picture on the camera counts as an actuation?? Is that true?

Well if you’ve been around you know my records
But currently on my 3mo old K20D I have almost 16K and will break that by the end of tomorrow. My highest K10D is 45K my other one shows 5K, however after it went in for servicing it was around 20K when serviced it got wiped
I always run 2 bodies so that’s why none has a SUPER high count at one time, but I do not baby anything in my bag (except the lensbaby, it is a baby LOL)

Edit after reading Phototramps statement: Sorry to disappoint but my grand old *ist-D is not 1Mill, its basically around 175-200K, I have counted at least 17-18 roll-overs but that is not total clicks. (After 100K it defaults back to 1 using PhotoMe to see the shutter count,) shop time has been for various oop'es and fixes for AF and computer etc. over the years but never shutter. When BJ Adams was still around at Pentax he had stated that at over 150K it was the highest *ist-D in working hands that he knew of, I ran into one person who was close to me with a 140ish body who’s shutter died.
I still bring it out to this day and use it as a remote-camera, Come to the gathering end of the month and see it (the legend) in person J lol

I lost track when I got my second k10d. When I sent my first one in for service it had 43,000 on it. When I got it back it was zero'd. They replaced some innards and boards etc in the camera so everything was set new. It now has another 7,000 on it, so it has around 50,000 clicks on the same shutter and is working just fine.

It sounds like you are having a great time with your new k20d. Keep having fun!

10000 after 4mths is good at that rate 100000 would be reach b4, 4years old ,so that could be a good time to upgrade or to keep on going

cheers

Ah, no.

An actuation is a click of the shutter and looking at an image on the LCD does not open the shutter.

What's the count from the manufacturer, "0" or is there suppose to be >+1 out of the box before actual use?

I just checked my K200D it has 223 but i've only taken less than 25 shots for "familiarity" sake.

Thanks.
