Just got the K10D and shot at night for the first time with it. This one is probably the worst example of the flare that I got.

I have a Hoya 0.75 pitch UV filter (coated both sides) on the front of the lens. It was fairly cheap so I guess that it serves me right and I should either shoot without a filter or spend a bit more. Recommendations??

Thanks, Paul

Chris, filters on a lens will produce ghosts under the situations appearing in the original photo. You can have the most SMC'd lens and filter, it doesn't matter, the ghosting will happen. I thought this was a well-known fact, but apparently it isn't.
Then the solution is easy: Go NAKED at night! hahaha but no kidding. If such fact is TRUE, it doesn't matter if you have a cheapo Kmart filter or a $500 B+W on, it will produce ghosts from every single highlight.

so next time you pull out your photo gear at night (dusk, dawn or any dark background and bright light sources), think of your filters as your sunglasses. Take them off!
