How can I get this?

Mi longest focal lenght is a Pentax 50mm 1.7 or a sigma 17-50mm F2.8 (obviusly @ 50mm).

Do I need a longer lens like a 85mm or a 100mm to get this shallow DOF? In headshots I have no problem, but If I want a full body shot, I loose the shaloow DOF

Thanks in advance!

A little longer and F1.4 might do the trick.

Even a slow consumer telephoto lens at its longest will do this, Bringass, but make sure the subject's close, the background's far away, and you'd better not be concerned by how smooth the bokeh ends up being. The less bright spots back there, the better. :-)

The 50/1.7 should be able to do something like that, I would think.

How are you doing the full body shots? If using the 17-50 zoomed near 17mm, even wide open you might not get the subject isolation you want because of the wide angle. Try your 50 f1.7 and compose by backing up. Position your subject so there's a lot of distance to the background to maximize background blur.

An 85 f1.4 (Samyang/Rokinon have an inexpensive manual focus that gets good reviews) will give a thinner depth of field, but the longer focal length means you have to back up even further for a full body shot.

Thanks DeadJohn, yes, I use my 50 F1.7 and try a half to full body taking distance from my subject, but even that way the DOF is not as shallow as in the pictures I linked.

Yes, I guess I'll have to get a longer focal lenght lens, like a 85 or a 100mm.

Even for full length shots, many pros will use a 70-200 f2.8 to get good bokeh, the tradeoff there being working distance.
