Hey guys! I just wanted to post this for anyone who has questions or wants to see how filters work with a filter holder. The filter holder I have is for my 10-20 sigma. IT's a 77mm thread. It's a hitec from B&H. See photos below. But the holder will hold 3 filters. I have two filters: Lee Big Stopper (LBS) and a B&W Polarized filter. The filter holder will rotate so you can direct the light in different ways with the polarizer.

thanks for the filter holder shots. I have only used the threaded filters to date but I've been looking at the Hitech filter holder as an alternative to the Lee. From the pictures it looks like the build quality is good. How do you like it?

One of my best friends has the Lee brand variation of the holder. I'd say the build quality is about the same. He was having trouble with the knob that secures the holder to the lens a while back. The Hitech version is metal so I haven't had any problems with what he was experiencing. I'd say it's a great 3rd party brand (and it's cheaper). What filters are you looking at getting? what do you have currently?

Today I only us a variable ND and CP. I would like to be able to use the graduated NDs for landscape photos.

Is this the 100mm filter holder?

I'm interested in getting something like this with adapter rings to fit several lenses.

Yeah, it is the 100mm x 100mm (some filters are metric or imperial 4"x4" or 3.9"x3.9") filter holder. You can get different ring adapters such as 67mm 55mm or 82. They call the step down rings I think.

Those have significant effects on the image. I too would like to experiment with those filters too. Also, photoshop or Lightroom has the same filters for free.

I've been watching the hitech filter holder for some time now, but hadn't looked in a while. Was looking at B&H this morning and noticed they now have the kits. They had the below ND starter kit at $145 with the holder, ring adapter, 0.9 graduated filter and 0.9 solid -- so I ordered it. When I was getting the link for the post I noticed the price went up to 189, so glad I ordered when I did.

My wife and I are going to Port Aransas next weekend for her birthday, so I'm hoping to have some time to try it out.

Thanks for the link to the review. $ince I do not have the 105mm CP, I did not order the 105mm polarizer ring. Looking a the images of the polarizer ring at B&H though it does have a plastic look. I will let you know about the mount once I'm able to try it out.

This is my solution for graduated ND filters on the Sigma 10-20. It is wide enough to avoid vignetting.

I have no vignette with this setup listed in my original post. Sigma 10-20 (15-30mm ff eq) on apsc k5.
