Yes it does, according to the table in the PF CIF tutorial. Custom menu item 20.

So I'm new to this stuff but have been trying the same as you. Main sport will be football, however my daughter cheers so we are at basketball games also. I bought a 80-200 2.8 for the football field so it's not the best at basketball. Usually I'm at 80 and wishing I could go lower. I place myself away from the court as much as possible because of this. I believe the further from your subject the in focus range is larger. I have not had problems tracking subjects moving down court doing this, but I can't get the shots like you have from the basket side of the court. I set aperture to 3.2 and shutter to 1/125 and float the ISO with pretty good results. I would try the focus trick just to see how it works.

Using F4 gives you a bit more leeway as far as getting your subject in focus
