Sigma Lense, 50-500 mm F4

Ok, I need a little help and some input from those that have the above mentioned lense or the 150-500mm F5. And are useing it on a K10 DSLR. Sigma claims that they do not manufacture a lense such as the above for Pentax. However,, I recall some of you mentioning its use on here. I'd like to know if either of the abve will work on my camera to include the AF. thanks Steve

I does exist and will work on your K10D, I'm not as familiar with the 150-500 but a lot of people have the 50-500 and from what I've read it's quite good.

There is no 50-500mm f/4 constant aperture lens if that it what you are asking.

The longest focal length f/4 lens would be the 100-300mm. Which is a constant f/4

And, there's no 150-500 f5 - there's a 170-500 f5-6.3 (I own one and like it).

thank you

And this is why I asked in here. Sigma lists a APO 150-500mm but they say it isn't avail nor does it work on a Pentax. Thankyou all who have replied. I appreciate it. The best information is from those that are presently useing the item.

The 50-500 f/4-6.3 (as others have said, no f/4 constant aperture exists for any mount) is known as the "Bigma". It is available at many places, I ordered mine from here:

I don't have it yet - UPS says "Out for Delivery" - I'm excited.

There's a 170-500, but it seems to be discontinued - Few vendors are selling it in any mount. Most people felt that the 50-500 actually had better IQ despite being a superzoom.

Sigma just announced a series of 150-500 HSMs, including one that is HSM for Pentax mount. The lens has been *announced* only and is not available yet. Given that the 70-200 HSM and 50-150 HSM are still not out after being announced in Feb or March of this year, I'm guessing the 150-500s won't show up until 2009 at least.

The Bigma (50-500) is a great lens. It's a little slow at the long end, but it gives great image quality. The new 150-500 apparently isn't out yet, and I'm not sure if it will be available in Pentax mount. Probably eventually, but not initially.

Sigma also makes a 170-500 that is reportedly close in image quality to the Bigma, and it costs less. The Bigma is one of Sigma's "EX" lens (the top of their line, quality-wise) and I don't believe the 170-500 is.

BTW, when quoting aperture values, it's customary to quote both ends of the range (i.e. the Bigma is f/4-6.3). By just saying "f/4", it implies that it's a constant aperture throughout the zoom range, which is a much more expensive arrangement, because it's very desirable. I started to get excited when I saw a Sigma 50-500 f/4 lens mentioned. 500mm at f/4.0 would be sweet....until I imagined the price tag!
