Better Beamer and Birds

When using a Better Beamer (or similar) with a flash to shoot birds with a telephoto lens, what settings do you use on both the camera and flash?

My current set-up is a K5-IIs and a Sigma 150-500 mm lens.

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

Don

Hi Don. If you type better beamer in the " search the forums " box, many older threads and links come up. Hope this helps.

What I do is no different than for any other flash situation.

I set exposure with maximum shutter speed, 1/180 th, and aperture / ISO to under expose by 1-2 stops, in manual exposure mode, then rely on the flash to fill in the rest.

Note the better Beamer has instructions that sat the flash should be manually zoomed, I think to a mid range focal length. You can experiment with this to see what is best

Lowell - Thanks for the info. Although there are a number of threads about flash extenders, I wasn't able to find a discussion about camera settings.

Thanks again.

no problem. the only issue is sometimes ambient light gets in the way, and the combination of F-Stop and ISO necessary at 1/180th limits flash range.

i use the better beamer with both my *istD and AF500FTZ, and with a different one with my AF540FGZ and later bodies.

I dont know yet but i wish the K-1 allows both TTL and P-TTL like the *istD
