OK, how do you vote on photos in the Gallery? I did submit a request for an invitation to participate in the PPG about a week ago but haven't heard anything yet. Do I need to wait for this to be approved?

Yes, you have to wait until you are an approved member (just a formality. I've never heard of them turning anyone down). Once a member you can vote on photos (except your own of course). Best of luck with your gallery submissions.

Rosemary and Mike. Thank you. I was beginning to get paranoid that I hadn't heard anything.

The real paranoia doesn't set in until you upload some photos for consideration and have them sit there for a month or more while you wait to have them rejected.

Mike, I've noticed that from some of the other threads around here. It seems almost a religious experience when some get photos accepted.

I just had one accepted a couple of days ago......after a veeeery long blank.

I now have a grand total of four in the gallery, an embarassingly low figure.

I got irritated that I couldn't even submit some scanned film photos because the site thought the pictures were taken with a camera called a "CanoScan 8800F".

What you need is a good EXIF editor, one that will let you edit all the fields. I have done it for my el-cheapo scanner - to where the image says it was taken with either a SF-1 or a Fujica ST801.

Dan, do not feel down by this. You have your own style of photography which is just not appreciated by either the panel of judges or the fickle public. Keep up your good work!

I'm not feeling down, James. It's just a little discouraging that my work isn't as "mainstream" as the others'.
