Should I use Shake Reduction with my reversed lens set up?

I have a reverse lens for extreme macro work and I wonder if I should use it with the SR on?

I have kept it off.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks.

If your tripod is steady then turn I off. But if you are a lot of shaking, SR may be beneficial. Give it a try I'd say.

Doesn't hurt to try a few shots and see what happens. On tripod I would likely turn it off, but handheld, sure why not try?

Thanks for the input. The general consensus is when on a tripod, turn it off. But I generally hand-hold it for extreme macro work so I will try turning it on.

I would suggest that you think about using a focal length that is based on the magnification factor to a degree. So if you are shooting at 2x lifesize I would try at least 2x or 3x the focal length and experiment.

Wow. You're a better man than I if you can nail manual focus hand held for extreme macros....

Up until K-1 Pentax SR compensate for 3-axis camera shake, and that exclude the x- and y-axis camera shake that dominated for macro.
And even on K-1 the 5-axis stabilization might have difficulties handling the amount of x/y camera shake that happen in extreme macro, and K1 will probably only be able to use 3-axis stabilization on reversed lenses.

Do not expect that much use of SR in macro, but it you set a focal length that are much longer than what you use, the pitch/jaw correction might help for x/y shake too. The result might be quite unpredictable as pitch/jaw and x/y shake patterns may not always be related.

And as x/y camera shake increase with magnification, so the best focal length to use will change with magnification. You probably have to do some testing to find what works best for each type of shot.
