Noob Question. Knowing what settings you shot the picture.

Quick Noob Question.

When yall put what setting you shot the pic in, is this from memory, or does the camera store what settings individual pictures were set in? Or is in the Pentax Software when you download to computer. Just curious

Thanks

Hi Steve! The camera automatically saves the numbers in the photo's file for you. If you shoot RAW you can view the info (Metadata) through any raw converter software, including the Pentax software. If you shoot jpeg, I think you can view the metadata just through the properties of the file. Hope I was of help.

It is in the file properties saved by the Camera. Many software (like Picassa) will read and show it to you if you ask for it.

I believe that the "shot" info is digitally embedded into the image as data. This data is usually referred to as EXIF data and there are many viewers which will show this: Windows Vista natively, the Pentax Photo Browser, and many other 3rd party alternatives... Just do a google for EXIF viewer and many option will appear.

Happy hunting !

I would seriously consider the K20D if I were you before you go for the K200D.

Just my opinion.

This being my first DSLR i think the K20D is overkill. I can get the K200D with a couple lenses for the price of the K20D. Though it would be nice, don't know that i need that much camera

You might want to consider finding a K100D Super (I have one) for your first DSLR (as it is for me ). Unless you need the extra 4MP I think the K100D Super is an excellent camera to learn with and will give you more head room for another lens. Now that I am fully into the Pentax system I figure another K Mount camera in a few years will replace my K100DS once I feel I have out grown my camera. Just my $.02.

I agree with getting the K100D, I actually went a step back even further and started with a *istD. I like that it has professional-like controls(two wheels), etc.

That means I got going for only $300, I will get a K20D one day when I think I need it, but I am enjoying the *istD completely right now.

But, I may be looking for something very different out of my camera than you. I like simplistic manual control. The K200 has MANY features that others find very useful, especially for beginners. You cant go wrong either way.

Between K200D and K10D I'd suggest going for an old used 10.

I wouldn't go for a *ist due to lack of SR. SR is really nice to have!

I would go to a K10D so that you get all the bonus features of the Pentax but at a much cheaper price. If you know you will upgrade once you get good at it, then I would wait for full-frame digital cameras to come out and then migrate over to that.

For lens, I liked my Tamron 18-250 as an initial lens. Once I've used it enough to know its limitations, then I picked lenses to serve my needs. As a n00b, you just don't know what you need yet (sometimes).

The K200D is a nice camera and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it. It will do more than you or I can take advantage of, so buy it and have fun! Remember, the film is free!
