Broken Viewfinder

HELP!! My camera(K10D) fell off of my coffee table and hit my hard wood floor. It severly cracked my viewfinder. Has this ever happened to any of you and what is the best way to get this fixed?

Get a good box, some bubble wrap, pack everything and send it to Pentax.

It is most likely that not only your viewfinder got cracked. I am pretty sure something else got whacked out of alignment and in this case, its better to have it serviced by qualified authorized technitians.

Sorry to hear this happened, but in this case, I guess its the only way to go.

Thank You! Any idea how much it would cost if it is just to replace viewfinder if everything else is Ok?

You can contact

Havel Camera
1102 Basse Road
San Antonio, TX 78212-1003
Tel: (210) 735-7412
Fax: (210) 734-2715
Email: havelcamera@sbcglobal.net

According to Pentax, this is the closest authorized repair center from Houston. If I were you, I would call first and ask some questions (reppair time, estimate, time estimate for repair, etc), then take if myself to them. Its only about a three hour drive from Houston.

The official Pentax repair facility is at

PENTAX SERVICE DEPARTMENT
12000 Zuni Street
Suite 100B
Westminster, CO 80234
1-800-877-0155

Hope this helps.

Is it just the eyecup piece that is removable?

If so, use this as an opportunity to upgrade to the magnifying viewfinder (O-ME53)

I bought one for my camera to help with manual focus and it is great:

No. It is the actual viewfinder glass itself to which the eye cup slides over. I took off the eye cup hoping I could do the repair myself, but unfortunately it is going to take a lot more than just undoing a couple of screws to remove the viewfinder glass. I can still use the camera because when I put my eye to it I can see beyond the cracks. There is distortion at times depending on the situation but the camera is still usable. It is like looking through a chain link fence up close to get pics of your son or daughter's baseball or softball game respectively. My major concern is the breech in this well sealed body the cracked glass may present. That is why I should git it fixed ASAP, because I love taking pics in a variety of conditions which the camera was built to withstand.

Thanks for responding. I really do appreciate any advice and will enjoy the support of this forum to its fullest!
