While at it, turn cooking into a family event - your hubbie can "get in the way" and make the process a lot more entertaining. wink wink
That can get quite dirty and messy!

dig out a cook book and start using it... you'll save money and enjoy better food anyway. I can't imagine 'eating out' several times a week. That would remove the concept 'of going out' completely.
I've been in the same boat as you, especially now that I have moved out and bought my own place. With the market the way it is here in BC, I paid just under 200k for a 620spft 1bdrm, saving money is key as it's a pain to afford on my own.

I have found eating in (and shopping at costco) has saved me a lot of money, I have saved enough to hopefully upgrade to a K10d, and also to buy a new remote control car which will make for some cheap entertainment

penny chasing after you already spent the money is no way to live ones life.

and not to sound like an ass, but spending 1500 dollars in 6 weeks on life and a worthwhile hobby is hardly classified as "blowing it", considering there are 2 of you working!

its not like you bought 1500 dollars worth of bottle caps.

Hahhahahah. You beat me to it. Good one. 1000 per cent correct. Our priorities were totally and completely rearranged by this. For the better, forever. Amen. The only debt we have is our mortgage. We bought in 2002. 35 Year mortgage. We have nine years left.

They're paying more than the minimum required payment, so they will be paying off their 35-yr mortgage in about 15 yrs.

At least that's my take on it.
