Great idea!

I just wish that Pentax would add the Altitude angle reading to "Electronic Compass Mode" screen. The accelerometers in the camera can easily determine the orientation of the pointing direction.

And if Pentax really wants to be nice, then they could make it so the user can dial in an azimuth and altitude pair (or right ascension and declination pair) and have the camera beep or show electronic level error bars to indicate that the camera is pointing right at the object or is a little off left/right or up/down.

And for even more functionality, enable the user to set a tiled pattern in azimuth and altitude with the camera beeping or showing error bars for quickly doing panoramic tiling.

It is a good idea. Does anyone have an idea why Pentax does not include the feature?

Probably because they didn't think of it. Having that info would be a great feature, especially with longer glass as I found out last night shooting at 560mm for the first time.

It would be great if we could request that feature. Pentax already have the most accessible astro set up and this would make things even better!

Another good feature for astro would be a drive mode of continuous with 2 second mirror up delay. maybe someone over a Ricoh will see this. The astro capabilities of their cameras is one thing that sets them apart from everyone else and while not a huge demand feature is one that when you want/need it is useful.

This is easily done with an inexpensive external intervalometer.

I am familiar with that but as a drive mode option I've thought it would be a nice feature to have.
