Been snooping around various forums...

And... I was trying to find at least 100 people who converted from X brand to Pentax. Here are my findings:

Unfortunately I could not find 100 people, but I managed to find 20.

9 came from Canon camp
3 came from Nikon camp
2 came from Sigma camp
3 came from Olympus camp
3 came from Sony/Minolta camp

So is it just me or is there something wrong with my results? I just went around and looked out for posts with people who were from other mounts!

Does it really matter?
I started with a cheap Praktica SLR, went to a Pentax, dabbled with Minolta for a while and came back to Pentax and wouldn't go anywhere else.

The best thing about Pentax is the value for money, to get the same quality in other makes costs more, especially the lenses.

True that. The amount of lenses availiable for the K Mount is phenomenal. Pentax prices for the most part are very mid range. A little high in some areas and cheaper in others. The quality is pretty much guarunteed nowadays.

Then there's the extensive backwards compatibility. Ricoh made very nice lenses and made a great line of KMount cameras. Its a bummer that they didn't continue alongside Pentax. The XR 50/2 and the XR 135/2.8 were great lenses.

There's a wide range of options for everyone's budget. The Kmount and M42 was widely used by other manfacturers too. (Including Zeiss.) But with the other brands...I don't notice any large movement towards establishing backwards compatibility. Out of all the Nikonians I'm met...only ONE uses older Nikon F Mount lenses. All the others have rode the ad wagon racking up arbitrarily expensive current Nikon digital lenses. (Same for Canon)
