Cheap DIY Dry box for storing lenses

In case ya live in a humid climate like I do ( Panama mountain cloud forest) I suggest ya store your lenses in a dry box to prevent lens fungus, like I learned the hard way. There are expensive electrical dry boxes but Ya can do with a plastic box, important it needs a plastic seal, then some silicon gel and optional a hygrometer. See attached images. Hope that helps somebody prevent lens fungus.

Got me thinking, perhaps use an old non-working bar fridge with the absorbent material included or a wine cooler with glass door (looks better)!

I put my cameras and lenses in the plastic storage bins like that, and with a hand towel on the bottom. Plus I have each of those cameras or lenses in a self sealing plastic bag.

I do the same with silica gel. I microwave them from time to time in order to reuse them

edit: microwave the gel, not the whole box...

Yup, I do the same. But in winters, when the sun is out and the weather is dry, I open the box and keep it in the sun once in a while. Even with this method, two of my lenses which were fungus free had hairline growth. Maybe because they were kept in the dark.
