"My new Pentax underexposes!" - a reminder

Since fall is here and winter's not far behind, we can expect the posts soon where someone goes out to take shots in the snow and all the shots come back looking dingy and gray (say....about 18% gray). The next thing is the post titled like this one complaining about how the Pentax meter just doesn't work!

Just a reminder for everyone, the camera meter will try to make that brilliant white snow gray for your shot. Your camera is not broken, that's what it does. Either use spot metering, or bump up the EV a good bit.

Okay, I've done my part.

You know what. I had to keep that in mind when i shot film, mostly B&W winter scapes, but my K10D and my D2h and D200, meter quite well in snow. Maybe a +0.3 ev sometimes.

That's mean. My lawn turned white the other day. Matches my hair.

Yes but think of all those extremely white bodies on the beach!!!

It would go close to matching snow. LOL

A friend of mine has been playing in northern hemisphere snow already but I will stick to the summer here thankyou very much.

Yep, that's why I need the +1, or are you saying I'll need +2? Maybe... in the South Island!
