Can someone help me? I don't know what it's called, but I am trying to find out how you make your pictures black and white with only one color like red showing.
I've seen this done alot, but can't find out how to do it are what software to use.

If you are using the K20D, the camera has a feature that lets you extract certain color. It is done via camera filtering (picture already taken).

If other camera (don't know if other Pentax DSLR's have this feature), you can do it with post processing in photoshop or corel photopaint. I am sure other softwares have this feature too.

you can use GIMP (its free!) or Photoshop... or any editing SW that supports layers.

you copy the photo to a new layer...
add a "mask" to the each layer
desaturate one layer (to make B+W)
I cant explain it, but draw on the layers with Black and white, and play with the options for how to combine the layers...

basically you are going to mask OUT everything in the color photo except the rose ( or lips or whatever). then you can copy the mask to the B+W layer mask, and invert it.

It can be done quite easily on Photoshop and the like as other have described here.

Just be careful not to over use it, there seems to be many, many examples about at the moment.

Use photoshop. Put a B&W layer over the color layer. Use the eraser to remove the B&W layer where you want color to show through. Easy & cheesy.

Thank's for the help! I knew you could all point me in the right direction. I probally want be using it much but I took pictured for a girls softball team and one of the players is my niece and her mother wanted me to make one of her pictures in B&W with only the red in her uniform showing in color.

The color extraction, and all of the other digital filters, in the Pentax cameras only works on jpgs.

Photoshop CS3, I tried the layer thing last night and it worked ok. I made a B&W layer over the color one and used the eraser to bring the red out of her uniform.
