I have been offer an k20d upgrade - what should I do?

I'm a 3 months new k200d owner. I'm very happy with it.
At the time I couldn't afford k20d so I bought what I could afford, the k200d.

I invested some money on the lens instead of the k20d, like FA 50mm 1.4, FA 77mm lmited, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 etc

"Problem" is that a neighbour of mine bought k20d 2 months ago because he liked my k200d "look". After he went to a photo course and everyone had canon and nikkon he decided to go for the canon 50d and is now offering me the k20d + kit lens and extras for a very very nice price The camera doesn't even have 1000 shoots. Really new

Problem is I was not expecting this now and my next buy was going to be a nice tripod since for "photo hiking" in Azores it's supposed to use/have one.

What do you think ? Should I stay with k200d or get k20d as second bodie ?

Is k20d much better than k20d ? Is it worthed ?

I could use some advice on cons and pros on this matter.

Thanks to all in advance

I'll take it!

Seriously, if I was presented with the opportunity now, I might consider it.

Look at how much the K200D sells for used here, then compute the difference. For instance, if it's a really, really, really nice deal you may be able to sell your K200D and come out with a K20D for $20, $40.

If you don't want it, offer him some help selling it and list it here for the really, really good deal he wants to offer for him as a help to him and your fellow pentaxforum members :-) (I have a K20D already, btw)

Forgot to say price he is asking is 500 € (still in open to go a bit lower) for k20d + lens kit + battery + 2 times 2 gb SDHC card + original shutter cable 80cm. (he also has 540 fgz flash) With flash, offer can be 650/700 euros but I already have one 540 fgz flash.

Normal minimum price here for (body only) the k20d is around 700/800€.

I don't intent to sell k200d (I think I don't ) since I like it so much.

I'd agree wih Jeremy c. Consider if you really need 2 cameras. It's nice to have but you might be better continuing with one camera and adding to your lens collection/gear.

The 2 cameras are quite different in the features and layout. IQ is great on the 200 but even better on the 20.

Sad to see your friend being swayed by the herd though. He doesn't know that he's going to spend more and in a number of ways, get less.

I'm happy with my glass. Only piece missing is something like DA12-24 in the future. (not a near one)
The only gear I really miss is a tripod for "shoot hiking" and if I buy the k20d I will have to delay the tripod for a while.....

This sentence is really making me thinking

If you get the K20, you could always sell the K200 and it wouldn't put you too far back in getting your tripod.

I'm a guy that concerning this kind of tech stays with it until all the juice has been taken.

(My last camera was a point and shot hp850 witch I stick for +/- 5/6 years)

My original plan was with the k200d (I really grow found of her in this last 3 months) improve as a photographer, collect some glass I really use and enjoy until I cover all the focal lengh I need.

AF I have (and use) - FA 50mm 1.4 / FA 77mm 1.8 / tamron 17-55 f2.8 and tanrom 70-300 f4-5.6 and finally but not least DA 18-55 mm f/3,5-5,6 AL II

MF I have Helios 44M / Helios - 44-2 / Cosina 24mm f2.8 / Jupiter 11A (thinking about selling some since I don't use that much) sms m 100mm f4 macro

My point is I will consider my glass complete with 2 lens, an AF macro lens (DFA 100mm for example) and DA 12-24 for example.

And of course, a tripod.

It was my plan... That is why this k20d is making some confusion on my head.

To the experts, what do you do, get the k20d ? or maybe DA 12-24 ? or just save the money for now ?

If you're otherwise satisfied with your current camera, I would suggest sticking with it and continuing with your original plan. You have a very good camera and lens collection. Now you can just concentrate on building your skills and gradually adding some of the other items that would add to your enjoyment (such as the tripod) and will be useful no matter which camera body you get in the future.

I'm satisfied ... problem is "is the k20d much better than this one ?", "Will I liked more ?" etc. Since I don't know her I can't compare. (I'm only reading)

Think I'm going to borrow the camera on Saturday for a couple of hours.

Short answer to your question is "Yes"

My original intent, too, was to run my bought-used K10D into the ground and upgrade whenever I actually had to. However, I'm thinking it would be prudent to resell the K10D while I can still get some monetary value out of it and sink it into an current upgrade while I have an opportunity.

The last time I sat on a camera body, it took me nearly 7 years before I finally upgraded and ended up giving the body away to a friend.

I think I would agree with Heather. If you have no need for 2 bodies and since the K200 is still a current model, you could probably sell the K200 and kit lens to fund the K20d, then buy your tripod. Nothing (or little) to lose!

I think you nailed it on the head - borrow it for a few hours and get some personal , real world feel for the difference. Then you can decide if it is worth it to you. As mentioned here you can always sell the k200 or the K20 here without too much of a hit and depending on the deal you get maybe no hit at all.

Having two bodies is nice ,but it is not necessary if you are not a professional. Now that said this amateur has 3 (istD , 2xK10D) however one of the K10D's is more or less my daughters .... and I thought I would use the istD more but not so much, so I may sell it. I do like having two bodies though. Not bad for someone who has only been into DSLR about 2 years.

Good luck.

Will get personal with the k20d on Saturday and then let's see what happen.

hmmmmm or even maybe I could trade (in EU since there will not be any extra tax) the k200d for one of the lens I'm missing. Or trade it for an custom IR or ... better go grab a cup of coffee
