The Double Exposure Faded Technique

https://www.eddysummers.com.au/blog/going-for-beers

This one takes a bit to explain, but in essence you use multi-exposure shot (2 shots) and have the second shot shooting into something bland like a card (or a dull overcast sky like I did in this video).

I encourage you to watch the video to see. It is chaptered so you can skip to the explanation and settings used in the video. Any comments are encouraged to be made on the YT channel also as I tend to share this stuff beyond the realms of PF and its helpful for others to follow the comments and replies.

Cheers,

BB

this reminds one of pre-exposure or post-exposure to cause exposure that is below the threshold for film to become visible, and it does also lead to reduction in contrast (but that is not why you do it and it is a undesirable aspect (you increase DR and thus reduce contrast). One exposes about 3 to 5 stops less than the indicated exposure. (Slide film typically 3 or 4 stops, B&W/color negative 4 or 5 stops.)

With digital I don't think it works as the issue is not a threshold but increasing noise in the shadows, but I am not sure. In any event I gather this is solely about contrast.

Looks like you got some light leaks thru holes into the bellows of your large format vintage camera, your b&w films got fogged during all exposures Have you tried the Orton effect?

Yes, though I have heard of it by a different name, and only using PS to produce the effect. I am not entirely sure how Mr Orton did it back with film?

From memory I may have used it sparingly here; https://www.eddysummers.com.au/blog/pink-planet

Double exposure , i.e. without film advance.
