Salmon Fishing In The Yemen

Pentax KX* (silver) film camera prominently visible in several scenes towards the end of the movie (Yemen press event scenes). I was fairly amazed .
Sorry, no screen captures.

Steve

* Falk Lumo and PJ1, in previous posts on this site said it was a Pentax MX. I would have to review the segment if I ever rent the movie again, but seem to remember the Judas window being below the logo and black trim band. That and the relative size is what cued me that it was a KX.

An Education (2009)

My local PBS station aired this 2009 coming-of-age film set in the early 1960's last Saturday.

I was half asleep at midnight but I do believe the above mentioned lens
was attached to a then not-yet-introduced Pentax Spotmatic body.

It was a pretty good film. It is quite evocative of the era.

Not a movie, but on Columbo tonight he was handed a K1000 (I'm guessing, it had an Asahi pentaprism) camera to take a group shot.

Just watched the Jack Ryan series on Amazon - I'm pretty sure the field agent in that shoots Pentax

Don't think anyone's mentioned this before: In the 1992 movie Universal Soldier, the reporter character Veronica Roberts uses a Pentax camera on the universal soldier base.

I have just watched the Shawshank Redemption. While watching I saw the 'k1000' or what is thought to be a k1000. I suspect it was actually a spotmatic or SPII with a honeywell flash. But it was fleeting so verification is warranted.

I've got the DVD. Where abouts in the film, timewise or a specific scene. I can look at it frame by frame and do a frame capture.

It is when the Governor has a press conference - 3/5ths through the film (or thereabouts)

Here we go. Resolution is not great (not a high end disc to begin with), camera was towards the sides of the frame so there is some lens distortion. A Blu-ray disc might have better resolution.

What do you think?

Based on the PC sync location, the lens finish, and the top of the camera, that looks like a Topcon IC-1 from the mid-70's. What's the era of the story in this movie??? I'm pretty sure the end of the film is around 1966, so someone in the Art Department didn't do their homework.

I agree...not Pentax. The Topcon Unirex preceded the IC-1 by several years and had similar appearance/layout. Edit: The IC-1 looks more like the camera in the photo.
