quick Q about D-BG2

Hi,
I have just purchased D-BG2 for my K10D (for incredible £65 new, from Jessops ).
I love it, it improves camera handling greatly (especialy for somebody with big-ish hands like me) and... but I leave that for later.
My question (maybe silly) is:
looking at the grip, the tripod screw is slightly "off". At least compared to that one on camera. Why is that?
thanx...
BR Peter

It needs clearance from bolt head that mounts the grip to the camera body.

If you slide out the battery compartment, you'll see that the battery extends beyone the original thread mount location. It's to allow for the battery.

Not to worry, it still balances just fine.

Agreed. The only real disadvantage is that an tripod screw offset from directly under the lens doesn't work as well for panoramics. The easy solution is to either remove the grip when shooting those pictures or use a tripod mount with a sliding bar to reposition the lens directly back over the center of rotation.

That's exactly what I thought about, and removing the grip all the time I'll do panos does not appeal to me, but I guess I'll just have to live with it...

Removing your grip for panos may take all of 5 seconds.
