I'll ask Ben about the Pano's. The idea was to make it possible for everyone to compete on a relatively level playing field and not everyone has the software to do this. But we also don't want to exclude people either.

We decided against pano's only on the reasoning that not everyone can produce them. Just to keep the playground as level as possible for everyone.

Now we need some shots!!

There seems to be some confusion about the categories, going by how people have labeled their entries. My interpretation is that they are "Landscapes: Urban" and "Landscapes: Nature". Is this right?

That is right rparmar. And I will clarify the categories on the first post. If anyone wants to change an entry, that's fine up to the last day.

Peter, this is a great incentive and you always consolidate great ideas into something inspirational. Ben, thank you for the generosity to give out lenses for such an interesting event. I can see fantastic images being submitted there.

Sorry that I have missed this thread as I do not frequent the weekly competition section that much these days

Does this mean pano's can't be entered? That's ok, just need the clarification (I have one I might want to enter)

Yes Nesster. We just wanted to make it level for all who don't have the software or skill to do that yet. So no Pano's

i just wanted to point out hugin is available on all major platforms (linux/mac/windows), it is free (both as in beer and as in speech ), and not that hard to figure out (excellent tutorials around there).

this is more to help people who might be reading this thread, and think pano creation is indeed not for the fainth of heart/slim of pocket , but speaking strictly of the contest, i respect your decision, it is "your contest" after all

having said that, let me raise the proverbial hat to your initiative! very nicely done. maybe we could keep this going on a by-monthly basis or something, with help from "other" people (some particular ben comes to mind ) -- seeing as this forum could be an invaluable market research tool (and sometimes even technical ideas free resource, as there are very smart and knowledgeable people around here), to these "other" people, but that's besides the point now.

i will most probably digg out two frames to participate, not to win but to acknowledge my appreciation for you guys.

thanks

edit: i just realized i confused some names up there when i said "some particular ben". ignore that part (i was probably thinking of some ned rather than ben)
