*shooting macro*

Hey folks. Part three of the ''shooting macro'' is up and running. Check it out here. http://enticingthelight.wordpress.com/2009/02/26/shooting-macros-section-3-the-math/

I know for me, it has caused me to break out my macro lenses. Leave Peter some comments of encouragement so he will write ''more'' articles. What I like about Peters articles is that he writes very similarly to Brian Peterson. Easy to read and understand so A person like me (amateur) can read it and apply the lessons learned...

I only employ the best, Javier!

And by "employ" I mean "make him write great articles for free"

C'mon guys, show Peter some love by leaving comments on the blog.

Peter really paid a lot of attention to write this series of macro photography up.

This thread as well as the earlier series should be made into sticky threads in the general section.

Hi Gerry. The cable release is used to stop down the lens.

What does it mean to "stop down the lens?"

You change the aperture to a smaller diameter - use a higher number such as f/16 or f/22 rather than low numbers like f/4 and f/5.6. If you think of the hole in the lens where the light comes as getting closer to a pinhole lens, you'll grab the logic. In the case of bellows and/or reversed lenses, a second extension of the cable release is used to operate the aperture on the lens because the camera cannot. Without the special release, every shot would be taken wide open.

Aha, so this thing has a built-in cable for that instead of you just reaching out in front..hehe.
Pretty lazy and the things engineers come up with to make our lives easier.

I also see though that you still have to reach the knob at the bottom (pretty much in the same line/distance as the aperture ring) to rack the bellows (they should've built a remote cable for this too since they where already at it..hehe).
