I really like your shots, Bactman. (in particular among many good ones.)


Also, I feel better about knowing this. I really would not have thought to even worry about it till the occasion might arise.

Sorry for the abbreviation... ND is Neutral Density, which implies the filter will reduce the amount of light passing through it but not change the colour (not all ND filters are as neutral as they wish/hope/claim). Another common filter you'll read about is a ND Grad, which is a graduated ND filter. It 'gradually' changes it's filtration amount across it's surface. Good for reducing exposure of bright skys.

I wouldn't use a welding filter unless you're OK with a green photo.

I dunno. My welding pictures usually have either the bride or groom in them....

Ah, the ties that bind.

Up until 8 months ago I use to be a welder/fitter. Too much of a toll on my respiratory system so after 5 years I'm out of that trade. It's too bad as it was something I wanted to continue with until retirement.

Hoya have an ND 400 screw on filter that may work to. Its pretty dark and needs
long exposures though. It may be around 8 stops or similar.
