Not necessarily - you can buy a remote cable with built-in intervalometer for less than $70 or so.

If you have a laptop you don't need an intervalometer for the K10D or K20D - download the Pentax Remote Assistant software from Pentax Imaging. Works great and will let you control 2 cameras at once.

I wish that were true for the K200D.
