I'll spare you the whole story, but let's just say it involves my K20D, FA 77, a creek, a slip, one hell of a drop, some scary sounds, and a splash.
Alright, Pentax's weather sealing is awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome--I am a true believer now. Thank you Pentax!!! The only part of the camera that took on water was inside where the flash pops up, and I found a few droplets on the mounting ring.
I dried it off thoroughly and sprayed compressed air like crazy (I highly suggest keeping a can on hand). Miraculously, the camera doesn't have one scratch on it. Not one mark!!! I've tested it and it's as good as ever. There is what I think is a little mircoscopic droplet on the focusing screen, but I'll worry about that later. Anyhow, the lens (my baby) appears to be a different story. I've got either a small squiggly eyelash inside of it, that appears to be growing, or I've got a crack on one of the elements
. Who am I kidding? It's a crack. The only good news is it doesn't show up in my pictures yet, at least not in the viewscreen.
Pentax is closed now. Does anyone know if they can repair the lens and what it might cost? If it's not cracked, which I'm 99.999% sure it is, do you know what they charge for cleaning?
Thanks. Now go get yourself a big can of compressed air and watch your step.
