2nd=1600 noise reduced with pentax software
3rd= 1600 with noise reduce technique in PS 7

Well THAT looks pretty conclusive!

For what it's worth, your test shot strikes me as the kind of picture that works very well with noise reduction - lots of fairly flat or monochromatic areas. Still, even if you were photographing faces or flowers, the principles should be the same, shouldn't they?

Hmm, to my eyes at least, the shots with the porch and the door and the bush don't show such a dramatic difference. Actually, I'm having trouble deciding whether the pushed shot is better than the noise-reduced shot or vice versa. What do you think?

The pushed shot looks pretty good, the last 2 almost look identical. I'm leaning towards the pushed shot on this one, and the PS fixed shot on the glass/k10d pictures.
