I prefer to note all that I dislike...

- Bad pictures

- Images that doesn't "work"...
- Tons of Family dogs & cats portraits (there are good one...but...)
- "Look! my lens is bigger than yours" images...
- "Look! my lens have less than 2 pixels wide CA in the corner in RAW" images
- "Look! I put everything I can on the WEB" images
- I'll stop here...

I have shot everyone of these except models/fashion/porn at one time or another.

I taught a course in Scientific Photography (lab work, microscopes and a lot of field stuff for Archaeology) while a staff Archaeologst in the late 70's. Object is center of the frame - edges are straight, perspective correct (measurable) and color (when used) is accurate. Lots of rulers and color control patches in the frame. Shot a lot of Infrared B&W and Ecktachrome IR, UV luminescence (bathe the object in UV light and use IR film to capture the resulting luminescence) etc. Did not like "Artsy-Craftsy" image makers - now I am one.

Up until a few weeks ago I was a peeling paint/garbage can photographer with a little landscape thrown in for good measure. Now, I am more of a generalist - sort of shooting infrastructure (both human and natural).

I must say that I am pleasantly surprised to see so much street interest. Most of the time, street shooters are looked down upon by real photographers....

Other - fine art portrait and conceptual photography stuff but I shoot anything that my artisitic vision tells me to.

I voted "other" because I find most of my photos fit best under the header "natural world" -- wildlife, landscape, birds, macro of flowers, insects...

The interesting thing is that I recently went through my photos for a different reason, after I had voted. I voted for macro as it is one of my favorite genres to shoot. However, all of my really good pictures, and probably 85% of what I actually shoot is landscape. But since the topic if "favorite" instead of "what do you do mostly", I'll stand by my vote.

The genre of the day depends on when and where I am. For instance, in my boring Sierra Nevada retreat, it's... well, mostly nothing, or maybe the wildlife wandering by (human or otherwise), or maybe semi-abstractions of the various crafty-crufty stuff littering my house. In a decaying mountainous mining town in Nevada or Arizona, it's tripodded night shots, and graffitti and street art, and old structures and rusting metal, and passing critters (human or otherwise), etc. In San Francisco or Acapulco or Guatemala, it's ever-changing street scenes, and vibrant architecture, and odd angles and juxtapositions. Or whatever.

My shooting is just to provide material for post-processing, where I generate posterizations and animations and matrices and distortions, with filtered spectra and glaring primaries etc. I guess you'd call my genre ANNOYING.

RioRico I think I am joining your club, my fav shot from last weekend has everything wrong with it. There is actually alot of detail in the full sized frame, but I mean the marks on the Plexiglass I think just add character...

After this I would say Family & Friends is my next favorite. I love giving people photos of themselves where they think they look great.

Whilst landscape are my fav they normally require more effort in timing and getting to the location. I have recently been shooting more people (photographing is the PC term I think ... hehe .. ) and been getting some pleasing results. Well thats from the subjects perspective which then makes me happy.
